Hydro-Testing Alliance - HTA

HTA is an EU FP6 (EU Framework Programme 6) Network of Excellence and the goal is to develop a formal and lasting structure to co-ordinate the definition and introduction of novel measurement, observation and analysis technologies for hydrodynamics model testing environments. The co-ordination of development, the sharing of advanced equipment and the dissemination of knowledge and guidelines aim at a more integrated and efficient use of marine testing capacity within Europe.
The Hydro Testing Alliance will in short term contribute to competitiveness and excellence of the marine industry, and facilitate the continuation of world leadership of the European hydrodynamic testing facilities.

The results of HTA will be:

  • Co-operation between alliance members to develop a joint measurement R&D policy
  • Increased and strengthened competitive lead with respect to areas outside EU
  • Excellence in skills and performance and expanding the benefits to industry and academic education
  • Novel technologies will be faster available to market
  • A structure R&D environment for its researchers
  • Better commercial acceptance by the industry
The Network of Excellence consists of 19 member organisations from 10 European countries, including 12 major marine hydrodynamic testing facilities.
The management structure consists of a steering committee formed by the core members of HTA, and by the representatives of industry and academic education.
HTA consists of 9 different Joint Research Projects (JRP), and SSPA is a member of JRP1, 2, 3, 5, 6 and are leading JRP8:

JRP1 PIV (Particle Image Velocimetry) operation in hydrodynamic experimental facilities
JRP2 Flow data analysis and visualization
JRP3 3-D wave field measurements
JRP4 POD / Dynamic forces
JRP5 Wireless data transmission
JRP6 High speed video recording and analysis
JRP7 Intelligent materials and production methods
JRP8 Wetted surface
JRP9 Free running model technologies

HTA started 1st of September 2006 and continues for five years. More information is available at the Project Website:
