Simulations
The increasing development of ports and fairways worldwide demands sophisticated simulation tools. Safety and efficiency are key words for all operators and investors. At SSPA, we have found that a combination of model tests and simulation studies is very cost effective. Thus, the key words for choosing simulations may be economy, efficiency and flexibility. The two main purposes for using the simulation technique are training and investigations. By using simulation, you can optimise and improve the process and detect problem areas. The full benefit of a simulation can be achieved, when it is done at an early stage in the design of a ship. When you already have a ship, a simulation is a tool for functional improvements. There are many areas where it may be effective to use simulations for investigative purposes.
The most important are listed here: Manoeuvring, Seakeeping , Stability , Port layouts ,Cargo handling Vessel traffic systems, Traffic systems, Route predictions Dynamic positioning.
A normal simulation study is carried out in a number of steps. As a first step in a new project, the mathematical model for the dynamics of the subject to be simulated has to be defined. An existing model may be used, if appropriate, or a new model will have to be designed.
