Sports Technology – new collaboration

Friday, February 14, 2014 - 09:39

High performance in sports is closely coupled to technology, both when it comes to new materials and motion analysis. This connection is addressed within a new project, a co-operation between the sports community, the industry including SSPA, and Chalmers University of Technology.

- The Sports Technology initiative is an excellent opportunity to demonstrate how research findings can be applied in real-life and to strengthen the ties between academia and industry, says Christian Finnsgård, Project Manager at SSPA, who is managing the project.

Sailing is one of the sports included in the initiative, and full-scale tests of Olympic sailing classes have already been carried out in SSPA’s lab facility, the towing tank. According to Finnsgård, these unique tests truly contribute to new knowledge when it comes to sailing small boats.

The Sports Technology initiative has also attracted attention from the public, and Swedish Radio P1 featured the project, including an interview with Christian Finnsgård, in the science program “Vetandets värld” on February 20.
