SSPA supports SLU, SMHI and KBV investigating new research vessel

Wednesday, August 20, 2014 - 14:37

On 14 August, the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI) and the Swedish Coastguard (KBV) submitted a joint report to the Ministry for Rural Affairs.

The report presents the results and recommendations of an investigation regarding a new research vessel for SLU/SMHI. Two alternative vessels have been studied; a new-build vessel and a conversion of an existing coast guard vessel, the KBV 001.

SSPA, working under assignment from KBV, has played a central role in the investigation. SSPA supplied technical project management, conducted a technical requirement analysis, initial design studies for both alternatives and a cost analysis for building and operating the vessels. SSPA also performed complete underwater radiated noise measurements on the KBV 001 to assess the options this vessel presents in terms of compliance with the ICES CRR 209 standard.
