Technical support of fast assault craft
The technical expertise of SSPA has supported The Swedish Defense Material Administration (FMV) in the second part of the lifetime extension of Combat Boat 90 (CB90). The modifications have ranged from installing new engines to new interceptor type trim tabs. So far 73 boats have been modified and the last three will soon be completed.
The CB90 is a 14 metre aluminum boat used by the amphibious battalion in the Swedish Armed Forces. This boat comes in many different versions and with different purposes, ranging from troop transportation to medical support. There are more than one hundred CB90 boats in the Swedish Armed Forces.
- SSPA has supported FMV through most of the process, says Egil Gustafsson at SSPA. We have been involved in everything from testing and specifying the lifetime extension to the inspection and the delivery of the boats from the shipyards.
Modifications of the CB90 lifetime extension include new main engines, new auxiliary engines, structural modifications, new interceptor type trim tabs as well as several other smaller modifications including a general overhaul of the boats.
SSPA has supported FMV with technical expertise regarding for example, testing and evaluating the performance of new components, specifying the modification of the lifetime extension, reviewing construction documentation, weight and stability follow up and calculations as well as shipyard inspection and production follow up.
- Starting in 2017 it may sound like a protracted project, but considering more than 70 boats have been modified so far it has gone quite fast, concludes Egil Gustafsson.

Technical support and expertise on CB90
The Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) has delivered updated combat boats, used in the amphibious battalion. The project includes in total 29 combat boats (CB90) that will acquire so called "lifetime extensions". Recently twelve CB90 was finalized and the remaining will be delivered during 2017. SSPA supports FMV with general technical support and expertise throughout this project.
Technical support for amphibious systems
The Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) has granted SSPA a framework agreement covering the supply of technical consultancy services in amphibious systems for the Swedish military. Amphibious systems are used where water meets land and the Swedish Armed Forces are using speed boats such as combat boats, ferries and hovercrafts.
