Water in the city - supporting growth or a barrier?
This upcoming event is organized in Gothenburg on 11 March. Meet experts from SSPA that will speak about the challenges and opportunities of waterborne transport in the city.
Water in the city is an untapped resource in the infrastructure area. By transporting goods and people on the water instead of on streets and roads, this may relieve congested city traffic. New routes can be created and areas that previously had the water as a barrier can be tied together. Research and studies show that there are great advantages in urban waterways but also environmental and engineering challenges such as regulatory frameworks, emissions and environmental impact, accessibility, and reliability. What are the preconditions for the sustainable city to increase its water-borne freight and passenger transport? Can the water contribute to the city's sustainable growth?
