In situ - SSPA in position

SSPA has been studying human machine interface and human factor issues onboard ships for several years.

The projects have addressed:

  • Human machine interface aspects of bridge radar, AIS and ECDIS systems
  • Human factors issues in the engine control room through a systematic mapping and identification process
  • Technology induced human error and other causal aspects within engineering

SSPA has also been analysing technical factors onboard for optimisation and safety purposes, such as:

  • Measuring motions and accelerations for possible route optimisation
  • Reliability and quality check of AIS and radar systems
